How Upcycling Barley contributes to a better Future.

Challenge

Global warming requires action from the industry

Climate change poses a serious threat to our livelihoods and requires immediate action. Extreme weather events and rising temperatures emphasise the urgency of this challenge. The food industry plays a central role in this, as it is responsible for around 30 % of global greenhouse gas emissions. UpGrain has set itself the goal of revolutionising this industry in a sustainable way and setting new standards for environmental responsibility.

Resource-conserving approach

Sustainable innovation – Our response to climate change

At UpGrain, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Through environmentally friendly production methods and Upcycling, we show that a green future is possible for the food industry. We transform by-products of beer production into valuable raw materials and thus actively contribute to the conservation of resources and positive ecological effects. Our approach proves that innovative sustainability can shape the future of the food industry.

UpGrain's Impact

Saving CO₂ and conserving resources with our first system

Our Upcycling process reduces CO₂ emissions, conserves valuable arable land, and saves significant amounts of water. With our first industrialized facility at brewery Locher, we have the opportunity to save over 5'500 tons of CO₂ annually while also reducing resource consumption. This first facility underscores our commitment to environmentally friendly and sustainable food production.

UpGrain’s Solution

Sustainable raw materials through intelligent Upcycling

With UpGrain, we set new standards in food production. For every kilogram of our products used, we save over one kilogram of CO₂ and conserve at least six square meters of arable land – land that would otherwise be needed for growing wheat, soy, or peas. Our sustainable ingredients offer the industry real alternatives and demonstrate how upcycling shapes a greener future. UpGrain proves that efficient and environmentally friendly production is possible.
